Mechanic says all Rusted out Shock Towers etc! Been asking for photos for 7 days

This car has been for sale for over a year and the owner said there have been lots of people who have looked and walked away...

The Mechanic where the car is says the car is a parts car because it is totally rusted out including the shock towers, rockers etc. The owner is a young guy and he keeps telling me for over a week that he is sending photos of the underside and engine compartment etc but I never have seen any. First he said he does not know how to work his camera. Then he promised photos the next day but then the photos accidently got deleted from his camera. That was last Friday! He also says the car has leather interior "I think" but it sure looks like vinyl in two tone to me. Then he said the car is original Agave Green paint. I asked him then why is the right door white?

Today I received this PM.

"ive been trying to send pictures from my email to you and it hasn't worked i dont know why ive tried multiple times but i keep getting a delivery failure notice. "

There are only 2 photos one from 15 feet away are also no photos of the rest of the car... Why is that?

sorry i cant put the world on hold to take more pictures of the car for you. i have a life and a job i put first. if you were so interested in the car why cant you drive a whole 30 minutes away to look at it? and the white on the door is plastic that the light is hitting to appear white as well as the seats. they are one color. im glad you're so insistent about the car, tho being rude isnt making jump up out of my seat to take pictures of a car you just want to bash on. it seems to be your motive in other cases. and why that is is because i am busy with a job. i will attempt once again to take the pictures for you. once again i am not promising anything. it seems you've miss understood my intention. i am not a photographer but i will do my best to take good pictures. i for no reason am trying to postpone or give false information about the car. my intention is to be detailed and accurate with all information that i give. the mechanic has been misleading and when i asked about this so called conversation he had no recollection of it. i am positive the car is not rusted out but has some minor surface rust. i should have gotten the car out of there a long time ago when the mechanic took my money for a job he never completed. i will gladly respond to any other question you have. but if you're going to be rude and or misleading i will ask you not to reply to any of my posts. thanks

You wrote that you are trying to email photos... Just post them here for us to see!

Today you wrote that you are having trouble sending me the photos that you have already taken... Strange because I received numerous emails many with photos during the past few days. I have Very Simple solution just post a few of the photos on this site in your post. Like the ones under the hood that you say you took.

I am over an hour away and I was ready to drive down there to look and possibly buy the car. It was you who told me to call Randy at the shop to ask about the car mechanically. Randy told me a totally different story then you did about the car. Based upon what Randy said and the fact that you told me a lot of people during the past year have seen and passed on the car and before I waste 3 hours driving to OC and back I asked to see a few more photos. Is that unreasonable?

If the car is straight and as rust free as you say I will buy it. That is why I kept calling and emailing you asking to see the photos.

I'm Still waiting!

i will go take more photos and post them tomorrow. i promise you this. the photos i previously took aren't with the newer carbs on. i will take pictures of the shock towers and firewall and all rust spots. i hope that works for you.

Thank you for the photos.

Not trying to bust your chops... But you told me and also wrote in this post...

"i am positive the car is not rusted out but has some minor surface rust."

Perhaps you are inexperienced with E9s and not aware of how and where these cars rust.

Maybe I am mistaken but in the photo of your OZ wheel behind the wheel looks like exactly what the mechanic Randy described. Some of the other E9 guys can comment but it looks very rusty to me. I am not sure how you could miss this though or call it "surface rust". Hopefully that is the only rust on the car that was overlooked.

Also in our conversation you stated the car has the original paint. I questioned what I thought was a white door (actually it might be Silver). Now looking at the new photos I see either Silver paint and/or primer in the engine compartment and underside of the hood.

The car having another color paint under the hood and still having original exterior paint seems very unlikely.

You also write "engine runs great" If the car has been sitting for over 2 years and you have never driven the car since the new carbs how do you know the engine runs great? Plus the car is at a mechanic. Why dont you spend a $100-150 to repair the clutch cylinder so the car is drivable. A drivable car would net you at least $500-1,000 more then a car that cant be driven.

If you dont know the truth perhaps it is better not to make statements that are misleading to a buyer.

Please take photos of the inner fenders and rockers (below the doors)

Exec,

I see green paint on the inside of the door; don't know if it's from the factory or not. The inside of the engine compartment and hood look like they might dusty and dirty, not necessarily painted or primed. One spot looks like the dust is rubbed off to the original paint.

My point is that maybe you should go look at this car before continuing to call the owner out for misrepresenting it.

im looking to get 5,500 or best offer. i have been offered 4000 already for the car. here are the new photos i took today. replying to execmalibu (jeff) it is true i am not an experienced e9 guy so i am trying my best. in all honesty i cannot afford to put any money into the car. if i had the money id be restoring it myself this car has a lot of sentimental value to me due to it being my fathers project but he got cancer and had his legs amputated so he couldnt finish it. i took 21 pictures i hope this helps with any questions you have. sry for the wait. The car has rust but it is hard to tell how much from the photos.

There is definitely rust but no sure how much...

We might take a drive down there tomorrow...

replying to exce

the engine runs great i know this because i fired it up and it sounds strong i havent driven it but when my father bought the car it ran really good i couldnt keep up with it in my 635 csi euro through a canyon. since the new carbs have been on i start it atleast once a week manly to see if the mechanic did a good job on the carb install. i think its worth the drive to take a look at it. Tho i am not the expert e9 guy you guys are.

sounds good jeff. i may be at work but youre welcome to go look at it. its location is at black forest bmw in costa mesa off of ohms way. make sure you give me a call when youre there so that you arent told to leave.

Jeff,

I went to Randy's shop to inspect this coupe. Unfortunately it is in very sad shape, it has apparently sat outside for quite some time. The engine does run, it is a true 3.5 with recently installed Zeniths, but it needs a clutch master to move it, head is an `86 but from an injected motor meaning no mechanical fuel pump.

The body has rust bubbling in the front quarter panel, rear driver side quarter panel, below rear window (that alone is scary) and rockers I believe have rust inside. Firewall/heater box area has lost its cladding and has surface rust. Hood has NO hood spring mechanism, looks tweaked, dent above right rear tail light, rear bumper very rusty, front bumper poor, all rubber is toast, interior is vinyl not leather, seats are missing the polished aluminum trim strips, wood is shot, wheel is a `74 2002 wheel, O.Z. wheels are 15" with some older tires. All exterior trim would need to be refinished or replaced, head light grilles are missing their aluminum trim surrounds, has 4 electric windows with sardine can motors and bunch of stuff in the trunk but no tool box. Everything in engine bay looks ancient from alternator to hoses and belts. In my opinion it is a $2000 parts car if that, given one would need to repair or replace everything on this coupe. I think it is Tundra Green Metallic.

I understand the emotional attachment that ones gets from these coupes, we all do, but this one needs to be parted out. And Randy wants it out of his yard and he would only make you leave if you took this with you.
