2nd gear

Hi all

I am looking for a E9 for about a year.
I have found a nice one. The owner tells me that the 2nd gear is sticking...

Is this common with these gearbox ?
Easy to fix or real nightmare ?

Hello Antonin - If it is the original 4 speed, I have heard of some problems with 2nd gear synchros, but usually with more powerful engines than the early M30 engines in our cars. Of course, you will want to make sure the problem is not clutch hydraulics and/or a worn clutch first.

I believe the folks at DriveGear near Philadelphia, PA rebuild these transmissions (https://www.facebook.com/DriveGear-102320337981288/), and there is also Metric Mechanic (https://metricmechanic.com/), but you probably would save money finding someone in Europe.

Depends on which gearbox that is in there Is it a Getrag or an older ZF Parts for the ZF are pretty much unavailable too bad, they rae a nice shifting gearbox when working right

probably cheaper to find a replacement 4 speed ... or better yet upgrade to a 5 speed, a little more money, but a great add.

The car was built in june 1970 so i guess ZF ( early series?)

A lot more money i guess with 5 speed upgrade?. It requires to change a lot of expensive parts i'm afraid.
