Hello,

I'm going to begin a huge restoration on the 1973 3.0 CSI just bought. Now the car is Polaris/Blue cloth. I don't like it.
My plan is to paint it black with a pale or red leather interior; I tried to look for the factory leather color options but I couldn't find them.
Any clue?

Thanks

That is saddle, the first color on the top of the chart. I just bought some saddle dye from them because my door handles are different colors (and the caps add yet another hue to the mix), and from a small test it appears to be a very good match.

I wouldn't count on the leatherworld site to have the correct 1970 vintage colors. #07 looks lighter than your photo as well. It appears to be the slightly darker brown that was available.

The only way to understand BMW's interior colors is to refer to the Orange Parts books. Because there are so many seat materials and combinations it's easier to look at door panel colors.

These are all skai/leatherette in their vernacular. Colors available were:

schwarz
marineblau
goldbraun
natur
weiss
rot
saddle
nylonbraun
bronze
beige
hellgrau

And even these colors sometimes have multiple BMW code numbers, Schwarz is 90, 92 and 94 for example.

In section 52/5 it lists leather seat colors as:

black 9090
natur 0202
navy blue 4141
red 2727
saddle 0707
white 8181
beige 0303

Extremely hard to figure out which is which. And many upholstery brochures with paint colors only show cloth and skai. Someone here probably has the leather color brochure, that might settle this issue. Marc, we need you!

Those are the six colors I remember but the codes don't match anything on the matrix which would help. What does 0010 for a Malaga coupe mean?

Edit: Wow, news flash! I updated my first post with the four digit code numbers from Scott's post, it makes sense now, at least for 74/75 perhaps.

i can actually help you out with that ...
9192 is embossed black vinyl.
4239 is embossed blue vinyl
i can't read the number on the saddle vinyl and didn't have the white one.

If this can help...

Chris, I finally found those pix in my archives and do not have to re-scan ...
Book is blue small binder "Ausstatungmusterbuch" and covers interior color chart and exterior paint codes.(left).

As you notice, e9 serie is only represented by 2800 cs. So I would date it 1971 or 1970.
This is the only sample book I ever met . Maybe there was another issued after dec. 73 for "second" series but never saw it.
On the other hand, I know this booklet had many revisions (small paquets cardboard bound sent to dealers, some of which I already posted).
I must add that all the E9 interior seen (in real or pix), (guaranteed originals) during the past 30 years, always matched this chart.

so

Should you need other leather/paint codes combinations, let me know !
Marc
