3.0 csl on ebay

Very pretty, but for $100k I'd expect a perfect no drama car. These issues ("Trunk does not have upholstery or toolbox. Rear bumper missing overriders. Headliner is pulling away from windshield seal just in front of interior rearview mirror. Sunvisors are original, and not in great condition.") seem so easy and relatively cheap to fix - makes me wonder if something else is going on.

I agree with rb1971, but given recent auction prices, a 507 for one million, an aluminum bodied Gullwing for multiple millions, don't be surprised if the CSL sells for more than the opening price.

I also agree with rb1971. For that price car should be sans of any of the outstanding issues/flaws and as close to original as possible.

I doubt that small "sundry" items will detract from a sale. Those items are (sans headliner) are all CS parts and are relatively inexpensive to correct.

Guys, thanks for the feedback. Regarding the things about the car that are less than perfect consider this. Last time I checked, the original headliner material had not been available for years. The fact that the headliner has a ~3 inch section pulling away from the window gasket is minor compared to the fact that it's the original headliner, and is in otherwise very good condition. They're only original once. I also believe that original sun visors are still unavailable at any price. As for the rear, CSL trunks may or may not have been fitted with the minimal upholstery that was installed on other E9 variants, and I'm not sure that toolboxes were standard issue either. If the buyer wants me to supply the car with a toolbox I'm sure we can work something out. As for the under riders, again, I've seen City Pack cars without them, rightly or wrongly. They're another nearly unobtainium piece, especially the left one, which rusts because it's right next to the exhaust pipe.

PS-I haven't followed the E9 parts supply lately as I've been involved in some other projects, so my information on availability may be out of date. I am not happy about selling the car but I've got other projects requiring some capital right now, and I don't have room for her either. All E9s are fantastic usable classics, perhaps the most usable classic ever built. Driving my CSL back to her storage space a couple weeks ago I was wishing I wasn't selling it, but we all have our priorities.

Tj,

I have two CSLs on site, neither have tool boxes on the aluminum trunk lid and neither have any lining on the trunklid.

Original visors in very good condition are available on this site. I have a couple in my garage in fair + condition.

Steve,

Really? Original CSL visors? Where? They're black, not white like CS and CSi models. I've never seen any available in good condition.

A very well documented restoration by a great contributor to this hobby and site. Sorry to see you go.

David,

Thanks for the kind words. I'm sad to see her go too, but I have found the barn find of a lifetime and it will require all of the proceeds from the sale of the CSL (and more perhaps) to complete it. But when I'm done I'll have a car that is pretty special, even more special than the CSL. I'm bummed though, because the CSL is such a great car, and I love mine. Driving it back to the storage place last month, after installing the wood trim, I was asking myself "why am I selling this again?" There's no better usable classic than an E9 in my opinion. They're just fantastic machines, and when this one is gone, I will definitely miss her.

You can always take a rattle can of landau black SEM to color the white ones. Wrong material but not all that many people would know the diff. Last pair of CSL visors I sold went for $700, I have one more pair but they are the last and would be more. There is a material that is similar but white, the 2002 headliner material or the 2000CS visor material is the same pattern but white. Again, some SEM on the white material should make them look right. SEM is avail online or at most automotive paint stores.

Exactly. And that's why the originals installed on my car are better than a modified part;they're original.

Hang on. You can't just throw that out there and not tell us more !

Fair enough gentlemen. I was very lucky and in the right place at the right time. I got what is the closest thing to a "Barn Find" that I will likely ever experience. It's a 1957 Alfa Romeo 1900C SS, Superleggera bodied and built by Touring. The car was in storage for 30 years, and was originally owned on the East Coast. There were about 250 built in 1957, and fewer than 25 are known to exist in the United States. The car is 95% complete, and the engine has been overhauled, but the aluminum body needs lots of love. Shin Yoshikawa of www.studiotimecapsule.com will be repairing the damage the old fashioned way, by hand forming a new nose over a wooden buck. This sort of work is neither quick nor cheap, hence the need to sell my beloved CSL.

That Alfa's a sweet ride.

I hope you get your asking price or more for the CSL. Despite my reservations below (which are based on personal opinion), these cars have been undervalued too long and are about due to start getting the dollars they deserve. (This comment is only partially based on personal interest. :) )
