I am using the old AIR ACCUMULATOR and SUCTION PIPE.
My swap is coming along slowly, Motor is in. Just need to hook the ENGINE WIRING HARNESS...out of a 535i 1989..
For those that have done the swap, my I ask where you placed the IDLE REGULATING VALVE ? and where did you run the hoses?
thanks ..also posted a pic in Projects & Restorations

If it is a Motronic 1.3 rig, then the idle air valve goes after the AFM but before the throttle body. There should be a large black tube connecting the throttle and AFM, with a threaded hole in the side. The idle air valve intake goes in that hole. The output of the valve goes to the intake manifold. There is a hose which snakes its way under the fuel rail and the wiring. It is a pain to fix.

What throttle body are you using? Carl’s conversion does some significant modifications to the throttle body that I haven’t had time to figure out yet. He places the idle air valve somewhere bellow the #5 runner, just above the starter motor. He uses some stock BMW rubber hoses to hook it up. As I recall it hangs in place with out a bracket; I was going to fabricate a bracket that picked up one of the runner studs. I bought the hoses from him but I don’t know what make/model they are off of; when I get home I’ll check to see if they still have the P/N on them. You can always call him and ask but, like I said, he does modify the TB so it is not just a bolt and go set up.

That's pretty much how mine is -- not Motronic, but same concept. Mine is mounted in place of the stock D-Jet idle bypass valve on a small bracket under the intake runners. I run a small filter on the inlet side, then the outlet goes through a hose into the fitting at the top of the intake log where the D-Jet Idle bypass valve hooked in. Seems to me, for Motronic you'll want to have the idle valve inlet plumbed after the AFM (like x_atlas0 said) so you aren't pulling in unmetered air.

As for the throttle body, most people use the L-Jet version. I believe Carl's modification is to epoxy the internal air bypass so there's no additional air coming in other than the air moving past the throttle plate. There may be more work needed to mount the TPS, but I went a different route and did not need to do this.

Again, not Motronic, but you get the idea. Your valve will look different and you'll still need another hose on the inlet side going back to the pipe between the AFM and throttle body:

With the old manifold, it does seem like that will be the way to go. Make a blocker for the cold start valve so it is open, then run the idle control valve's output to the input plug on the old cold start valve. It's that or tap the intake manifold.

Plumbed into the same place with a tube over the top of the log and the bypass valve on the other side. There's a picture on here:

I love Paul's car, but IMHO I think that tube looks out of place (along with the big AFM).
