First off - thanks to Adam for managing the acquisition and logistics for those of us that wanted a high level 3rd brake light.

Something to consider is this flasher circuit on the youtube link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTKgsuc3nXU and the flasher and circuit described in the 2002faq link about half way through http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component...ostdays,0/postorder,asc/topic_view,/start,90/

Soccer mom's and text messengers will still miss it but we can always hope. The unit itself http://www.comagination.com/bflasher.htm

Not Me

I was behind a Saab 93 or 95 today, when the Saab braked the 3rd bl was like a tracer light going back and forth then flashing in the middle. I thought it was annoying and had no greater effect.

I started a post a short time back about the 3rd bl, some people don't feel it's appropriate on an e9. If you drive your car, I think it's Important, many people look for the brake light there. Third bl's have been required since 1986, it can be tasteful and discreet.

I vote yea on the light, no on the flash.

I second that. The period of the flasher is >> the reaction time necessary to prevent a rear end collision. That is, unless the guy behind you reacts when the brake lights first come on, no amount of flashing is going to save your irreplacable chrome bumper.

So sure, add a high, third brake light. Maybe it will get the attention of the texting teenager behind you. But don't assume that having it flash will do any more than annoy him/her.

Plus red flashing lights are illegal on civilian vehicles. Not that I'd lecture anyone about legality. But why tempt fate over something that probably offers no benefits?
