4 barrel intake manifold

I remember reading a post somewhere where one was installed on an e3 and the results weren't all that great. I would think the big difference in intake manifold distance from the carb for each cylinder would compromise performance.
 
I pulled one of these from Pull-a-Part in Atlanta several years ago for DP and shipped it to him. Perhaps he can tell if he ever tried it?!!?
