Thanks everyone for the kind words. The car has been SOLD...

This accident has made me think about driving nice cars and making sure they are well insured... You never know when a uninsured or under insured motorist is going to forget to hit the breaks - like in this case. In the state of CA - they say 1 out of 4 drivers either don't have insurance or only have CA minimums which is a paltry $5K for property damage...

Do yourself a favor and bump up your coverage on your coupe(s)....

Don't know about California but it is illegal to drive without insurance in the UK. Unfortunately people do but if your caught or in an accident there are some hefty fines, the uninsured car is confiscated and there is possible jail

It's illegal in states as well but people still do it.

actually, not all states...

from the live-free-or-die state dmv webpage:
"New Hampshire motor vehicle laws don’t require you to carry auto insurance. However, if you have an “at-fault” accident and don’t have auto insurance, the New Hampshire Division of Motor Vehicles could require you to post a bond or cash equal to the amount of damage you caused in that accident."
personally, i like the part about "could require"

too bad they only calculate the value of the car, not how much you put into it
