4310326 - for the registry? On ebay

First off thanks to the guys who created the CS registry and to the people that maintain it. Just wanted to let you know about something that's been in the back of my mind concerning the Registry. In 2010 I added probably about 25 cars or so to the registry under " seen in ad " section. I uploaded the photos and basically copied and pasted the public ads I saw for cars being sold mostly on Ebay and other similar web sites that sell cars. They were all public ads floating around the Internet for all to see and I always deleted the contact info. Most of the info I added at the time has now been wiped out by the people who bought these cars. The reason I added the cars was so that in the future it would give us some history of what prices were at the time and that it can hopefully serve as carfax If you will.

I've seen similar databases on other car forums that do this. So when a car is for sale, there might be the possibility that if the car your looking at has been registered you may be able to track its history from the time it was registered.

The way the Cs Registry is set up it allows the new owner to wipe out the info that was originally registered . I never really understood why ? I think and its "just my opinion" that it would be more interesting and informative If the new owner could add to what's already been registered rather than deleting the info . And the following owners can follow suit and keep adding their the new info.

Here's 2 such examples I added to the registry, vin 2211040 and 2240299 in May 2010. It'll be too bad that the price photos etc.. will disappear once whomever buys the car usually wipes out the ad. Just a thought !

G,

The reason for this is the new owner can't access the prior data due to the password of the person who added it. The easiest way for new owners to add data is for me to Archive the prior data so it still exists but can't be viewed. Then they create a new listing with their password. The vast majority of the entries don't have photos or prices either. I added 400 coupes from the old Registry into ours as Seen in Ad/Other, when these coupes surface the reference to the prior Registry goes away too. I always wonder why owners don't at least display their Forum Alias too in their listing.

Thanks for the explanation Chris. Its nice to know that the original registrations are being archived, hopefully one day they'll be re added.

I was just looking at this car on Ebay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-Other-3...399ee44f3&item=221625861363&pt=US_Cars_Trucks

and just checked its vin 2250631 on the Registry, Thx to the original registration we now know that at the time this car was registered it was Schwarz and not Fjord.

Happy Holidays and Best Wishes ,,,,:)

I would think that a lot of owners would not want the price of the car posted. Photos aren't as big a deal but those can also be "personal" to some people. Whether you got a great deal and don't want people to know or you think you paid too much and don't want people to know, that's private most of the time.

Yekkk

No rear hood seal
wipers a mess
awful tuck job on the seats
auto?
Red interior whoops
just my opinion

No under-belly shots, no trouble area shots, lower end carpet kit on a 79K car? Also, since these guys supposedly do restorations why not put the hood seals in and why not fix the channels at the top of the fenders, I love the exterior color and the paint looks nice but like so many things in life -who knows what evil lurks beneath the fancy exterior-

Well at least they didn't paint the wiper motor :)

Love the red interior. It's just is a total mismatch to the blue. Carpets are crap. Looks like upper front fender integration/remediation is a botched job with filler gooped into the channel.. With a presentation like this, the car needs a very close inspection. Could be worth anywhere from 15-40 depending on what lurks within IMHO. I think to say this dealer is "fishing", would be a great understatement.

I would think a documented record of this price/ad would certainly be in the best interest of the next owner.
