Hi,

I would to give my e3 (2500 automatic) an 3,5L comming winter. I also want to change to an 4hp22 automatic. Does anybody of you know if a 4hp22 has a tacho meter connection on it? If so, on which type?

Thnx.

Not too many switch to an automatic around here, but as I recall, the big problem with the 4HPXX transmissions is size. It does not fit in the existing transmission tunnel, it requires some floor fab work to make it fit.

In terms of mechanical speedo drive, anything BMW from the early (82 MY or less) 80s will probably have one. The easiest way to tell is to check on realoem or the like for the speedo drive system part numbers and see what shakes out.

The only 4hp22-equipped BMW with a speedo drive were cars with the taxi package; good luck finding one ;-) (E28 or E23)

BMW Classic in Munich restored a customer CSi a few years agi and fitted a 4-speed auto upon the customer's request - so it can be done!

Cheers
A
