Hi All,
I'm looking for an older Bimmer as a daily drive to complement my coupe. Any recommendations? I'm thinking of an E28 or E24.

Also when did BMW switch to galvenized body panels in these models?
Thank you so much,
Ken

E24 is a good complement. The switch was somewhere between 77 and 87, I had a Euro 77 E24 that rusted badly but my 87 has zero rust.

I like the 745i turbo- same basic engine as an E9 and same manufacturer as the E9, also has many af the same colors as the E9. Tou will be able to get spare parts from the same places you get E9 parts.

I love my Euro M6, despite its faults, which are manifold. They're a bit heavy and lack the tossable feel of an E9, but in modern traffic they're safer, quieter, and have more creature comforts. I would happily spend good money on a very well maintained Euro M6 before I'd buy a new car. I'd have something unique, stylish, usable and a future collectible, for half the price of a new car. In fact, Bimmer just called the M635CSI one of the cars that will soon be "collectible", along with non-CSL E9s, M Coupes, and several others. I had the pleasure of driving a 79K mile time capsule Euro M6 last weekend and it was amazing. Sadly mine's been violated a thousand ways from Sunday and sometimes I'm not sure that even I have the stomach to nurse her back to the condition she deserves. I didn't pay a lot for it, but it needs at least $5K put in to it to become respectable and reliable. But sound and power delivery from that M88 engine and the way she handles and gobbles up freeway miles are so seductive.

Daily commuter

I have had several e28's, e34, and an M6. I would not hesitate to commute in any of them, all are comfortable and relaible. You will have alot more maintenance in the M series, so be ready. Still have a 89 e34 535i that is a great car. good luck

My E34 540 has been a stalwart companion for almost 15 years. It has never left me or my father stranded or required anything major. (yet) Having 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque on hand is also quite nice, as is the combined 22 mpg. I would have rather had the 6 speed version however, as the 5HP30 (the 540's auto box) has a valve body flaw that manifests itself in a very nasty way.

nuts!

the question canot be answered as stated

BECAUSE

he didn't say what kind of driving he wanted it for.

I do mostly city stuff and for me another 2002 would be just fine. It would also be my 14th or so.
