I am collecting parts for a Getrag 265 5 speed conversion into a 1970 2800CS with 4-speed. I understand options are to either shorten the existing driveshaft or get a automatic driveshaft and lengthen.

Are there alteratives such as using a driveshaft out of an E12? I would really like to not have to shorten mine in the case someday upon selling I can retain all the orginal parts.

What is the best way to go?

1. Source a CS manual tranny shaft and shorten
2. Source a CS auto tranny and lengthen
3. Alternatives??

Thanks

I've done 5 of these- you can use an auto driveshaft with an e34 M5 guibo and a 2nd gen 260 output flange. Cut the output shaft 1/2 inch so that it fits in the driveshaft nose.
Or- take your driveshaft to the shop and have it cut.... If you do that you should do the math to accomodate for a newer style guibo.
