Howdy all,

What is the level of difficulty to change the 'selector joint' on a 5spd tranny? I have some excessive slop in my shifter and a local BMW shop stated that this part contains most of the slop. Also considering an UUC shift kit upgrade 'while I'm at it'.....

Got any good source for the selector joint, he had one but was gonna charge me $50 for it...seemed steep.

This part?

It's $35 at Bav Auto, and easy to change. You should change the seal on the shift rod at the same time.

And in my experience, that part has little to do with shifter slop. On Getrags, it's loose bolts in the the shift platform mounts, worn out shift platform mounts, worn bushings on the shift lever end of the connecting shift rod, and worn ball cups in the shift lever pivot. All are el-cheapo fixes, and well worth the afternoon of work (and that allows plenty of beer drinking time, all in all it's probably an hour of actual labor).

Yep that's it. BTW: I am running a C/R box if that matters.

I've learned there are two possible selector joint widths for a 5spd set-up? true? (as seen on the GRP website) or is there only one size for the 5spd conversion in our coupes? Are the different selector joint widths specific to the OD and C/R boxes?

My shifter ball cups in the shift lever pivot has been freshened, but maybe I should go grab a six pack and take another look to see if the shift platform mounts and bushings on the shift lever end of the connecting shift rod has wiggled loose or worn out.

thx!
