I've tracked down a BMW "sideloader" type LSD (3.07 ratio) in good shape from a pre-1982 E12 chassis 635. I've been told it will bolt up directly to my coupe. Has anyone done this or does anyone have opinions about the ratio. Also on offer - an open diff with 3.9 gears though this probably more suited to track action.

I would guess acceleration will feel fairly leisurely compared to the original diff ratio. I swapped a 3.45 LSD to replace an open 3.64 and was surprised at how noticeable the change was. Car has an overdrive 5 speed and fairly stout 230hp 3.0.

But I've also driven a "euro" 635 with 218hp, 3.07 diff and close-ratio 5 speed and thought that combination worked very well.

I installed the 3.07 lsd in my 2800cs last year.
Bolts right in. Makes a nice large OD gearing. On long incline will need to use other gears, but that is what they are for. I also do have the 265/6, OD.
Dash gauges read 3k rpm and 70 mph, gps read 81 mph! Wheels may have added somewhat to mph.
My motor has no increase in power from original.

A good investment in my book.
