My gas pedal disconnected from the pedal rod yesterday, the plastic loop basically broke off. Is this part available from BMW? Any other models that share the same pedal? Most importantly does anyone have a used one for sale at a reasonable price? Thank you.

That happened to mine a while back. I shaved down the broken material, turning the ball section into a roller. It has worked fine for several years.

Last time I checked the gas pedal was still available. This is a common failure on old BMW's and could lead to a serious problem. So, having experienced a stuck gas pedal in an old BMW before I swapped mine for a new unit.

It's actually quite amazing - if this pedal design was on a current BMW the amount of litigation that would result would be mind boggling.

Temporay solution

I did a "temporary" solution a couple of years back.
I managed to drill two holes and reattached the rubber loop again with matching screws.
Must admit that I also was a bit skeptic for my "reuse" solution :)

But, I am still running with this "temporary" solution and it works great. No any signs at all that the rubber should fall apart (I have been using the car a lot since repair)

In this case perhaps I was a bit lucky with the drilling and choose of screws to achieve long lasting functionality.

Still it is a repair and not to be compared to a new gas pedal.
