Correcting the title. I now think it best to say 'Mileage unknown' at this time. I believe if she digs deeply enough, she will find lots of records for the car. There was one large box in the storage locker room that had BMW records written on the end.

I came across a person who owns a '72 3.0 CS and wants to sell it. The owner is a widow whose husband died several months ago, and was a car collector, along with many parts for these cars (This CS, a 2002, a Cobra, and an old Mustang) but not much for the CS. He and she had attended the Barrett Jackson 'circus' many years. The husband died fairly suddenly, so she is left to dispose of the cars and stuff.

Regarding the CS. I have not seen it, but it was a garage queen, and has only 16K miles on it (NOT 116K - I asked). It was frequently the winner in car shows where exhibited. Was imported from Italy, where it was originally sold.

She is willing to accept inquiries from people on this forum. I will forward her first name and e-mail address to those who are seriously interested - send me a PM. (IF you have ever used a name with GoooGooo in it do not bother!!! - ha).

The car is silver with blue velour seats. I didn't ask, but am pretty sure it is a manual transmission. I purchased a spare set of seats she had, and one other interior part. I noticed she has a 'perfect' panel that goes below the steering wheel with a round switch hole on each side of the wheel. She also has two excellent grille inserts for the sides (headlight sections).

She's sent me two pictures, which I've posted below. I'll give a little further guidance to those who contact me regarding her situation. She did say that someone was coming to look at the car for possible purchase this weekend (7/11-12)

I request that if you send me a PM requesting her e-mail, that you give me your full name and location (e.g. southern California). I feel responsible for telling her who might be contacting her about the Coupe.

any info on the 2002?

O2m2, and others,

SORRY, I erred. She only has some 2002 parts, and I mis-understood, thinking he'd had a car as well!! SO SORRY to mislead you.

Gary--

Sad story, seems appropriate to honestly guide her on value of the car so she is not taken advantage of.

This is starting to resemble the New York practice of looking for rent controlled apartments through the Manhattan obituaries...

I just had input from someone who has looked at the car, after receiving further info from me. He says it DOES NOT LOOK LIKE A 15K MILE CAR - more like a 115K mile car.

I did not see the car, asked her directly if it was 16K or 116K, and she emphatically said it was 16K. SORRY to have posted an incorrect data point. My impression is that she does not know, not that she was lying to me (but, I can be naive!).

Caveat Emptor!!!!

Gary--

PS: I have sent the information from the Registry that is quoted below by BMWPete to the owner, so she now knows how her husband had previously and publicly described the car.

Thank you Pete for helping bring more clarity to the topic!!!!

I think 116K sounds better than 16 given the wear and tear on the seats. Maybe there were only 16 miles with kids in the backseat!

Did this person happen to mention whether it's running currently or when it ran last? I have an email thread started with the owner but have not had that question answered yet.

BTW, she sent me a picture of the 69 Shelby GT 350. Out of my league but a nice looking car.

Hi Gary,

Eh no worries, we all get excited when we hear 16k and original:)

Unfortunately for the lovely lady - I have just had a chat with her and she is very sweet - her husband had already entered the fact it has been repainted etc in the registry ...... Entry below.

So, its certainly is not original paint and the mileage is definitely not 16k. That said, I suppose somebody she trusts will have to explain it to her.

General History: Italian Coupe imported from Italy to the USA in 1986. Has power windows, P/S, 4 speed, no sunroof or A/C, blue velour interior.
Modifications: Webber DGVs, but have original Zeniths. The rest of the car is pretty original with one repaint in original color.

guys - you have to remember, as an italian car it had an odo that read in Km. at some point it was switched to an odo that read in miles. at that point something had to change.

I've not seen the car, but did meet the owner earlier before car was on market. While she is not informed about things BMW, she is a pleasant and straight forward person who deserves a good sale here!

PPI in DC area

I don't know of anyone who really works on e9s.

David Toy is a 2002 guy who once did a very helpful inspection of an e34 for me:
AutoWerke
11800 Coakley Circle Rockville, MD 20852
301-770-0700

Another local shop that has been around a long time and has been helpful with my coupe:
J & F Motors
4064 S. Four Mile Run Dr. Arlington, VA 22206
703-671-7757

I'm copying a PM I received from Chris Ohmes regarding his willingness to 'look at' the car, but not do a full PPI. Wonderful offer, for anyone interested who is distant from Bethesda.

Anyone who wants to contact Chris should do so via a PM. His user name, obviously, is Ohmess

Here's the PM:

Hi Gary

I live in Vienna, VA just outside Washington, D.C. Full name is Chris Ohmes (I use a phonetic spelling of my last name - Ohmess -- on the forums in the hopes more people will pronounce my name correctly).

I am not in the market for a coupe, but pass along this information in case someone on the forum wants inspection assistance. To be clear, I would be comfortable doing a first cut at an inspection (enough to determine whether to recommend that a seller buy a plane ticket), but not a full inspection of the vehicle.

If the seller is located in the part of Maryland near DC, they might slso consider contacting London Auto Services in Arlington. They had a pristine e9 in the shop newly purchased from CA by a local buyer a couple of months ago.

I haven't had anyone else work on my coupe, but London is my backup plan.
