I think someone I know saw the car, it's a turd at best.

Said the barn find elitist! On a serious note, I think that it looks like it's worth a visit for someone local. Especially if it isn't the car that Chris is thinking of. I do think it has been listed and discussed in the past six months.

Somebody needs to pick up that green one in Phoenix!!!

yeah, photos are deceiving. It looks so Purdie in pitchkers.

For example, you can hardly see the newly styled wheel well radius In The pics. In person it's probly hard to miss?

Surface rust is the new catch phrase:-(

Not that I need/want another project, but why do you think it hasn't sold? Price seems reasonable given the pictures included with the CL ad. I know there is some rust, but darned few 43-year old cars are rust-free.

Maybe because he purchased it for $3,200 on Ebay 4 months ago and is asking double what he just paid for it. All the claims of thousands spent was done by previous owner. The initial seller on Ebay purchased it for $2,000 if I remember correctly and quickly flipped it for $3,200.

To recap: This car has changed hands three times and apparently tripled in value in the last 5 months from the initial $2,000 selling price to the new $6,000 asking price.

I personally don't care what a previous owner paid for a car. By that logic, all of the smart/lucky SOB's that bought their E9 before 2007 should get lowballed when they sell. It's interesting that people apply this logic to cars, yet it has zero standing in other markets such as housing. If he isn't honest in the ad, that is another issue altogether.

With that said, now is your chance to relay to the world...

I don't know how to even begin responding but I would suggest you chill out a bit. A question was asked and I responded to why I thought the car was not selling. My logic was not based on an eight year span of prices and where they have gone, it was based on a few months span for which I am sure you will agree neither housing or any BMW has tripled in value. I have no intention of relaying my opinion to the world as you are suggesting and you may want to take a different tone when responding in this forum. This forum is not or has it ever been the type of forum for smart a** responses. We all try to stay positive here even when we are in disagreement. Your post was a matter of opinion which I can respect but when you suggest I relay to the world with a link, that is a bit offensive.

Verde,

You misinterpreted the intention of my post. I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone, and I have no vested interest in this sale. I'm not trying to be a smart ass at all. I still believe that previous owner purchase price is irrelevant when buying a car. Many others such as you disagree. I've posted links to BAT with the same recommendation as I have on other FS posts. Before everyone swoons over the clean paint job on this car, why not post the info that you located? It sounds like you don't want to. I get it.

Now, Ladies and gentlemen, back to the E3......

Seems a PPI report (from someone here?) was posted on this car, says everything you need to know:

"I know this particular car. It’s very rusty. It sold in Rancho Cucamonga for just over $3K a few months ago and the buyer found out the hard way that Bavarias hide their rust well in pictures. He’s relisted it several times now but the sale has failed to complete, presumably because the potential buyers have shown up and seen just how rusty this thing really is. It’ll be expensive to put this one right. Sadly, another ebay seller who’s not being truly upfront about the car’s condition, hoping for a far away buyer who will simply send the money and a transport truck. Be afraid, be very afraid."

My intention for disclosing the two previous selling prices was an effort to show that maybe this just isn't a $6k car and that may be the reason it won't sell. The info on the previous sale is on ebay on the sold listing section. The sale before ebay was on Craigdlist and the post is long gone. I generally do agree previous sale prices are not relavent to current value but in this case I think it helps shed light on true value of the car and the lack of interest.

Here is the eBay listing when it sold for $3,275:

Oh they are talking about me.

When I bought the coupe in 2005 I was indeed a lucky SOB, for most of my other affairs I am just a plain SOB.
