I imagine this car has been discussed here already, but I could not find it.
What do you guys think of it? (The never ending dream of finding a clean E9 under $50k).

Yikes. Thanks Ferrer. Big help.
This is too often the story. I have a rust free 2002 I have been modifying and upgrading..., so might just be content with that.

Don't give up on the dream! LOL. Just keep looking and talking to people. And remember. Always, always, always buy the best car, you can. That means it's better to increase your budget upfront than pay 2x for repair/fixes down the road. Better structurally sound than all sweet looks with the wheels and dam. My 2 cents of course.

IMHO, the one place where I no longer buy the best I can is in regard to paint (caveat ...).

New paint is worthless to me if I don’t know what is underneath. I prefer an older paint job that has seen plenty of miles and time out in the elements, as poor work won’t hold up in real world conditions. the worst is a brand new paint job without good documentation. These are so often cover ups, despite owners/sellers saying, “the body shop didn’t mention anything wrong with the body.

In contrast, an excellent substrate and paint job will still win car show concours events after +15years of regular use of you protect against stone chips and maintain it.

The most indispensable tools I bring when shopping for a classic car are

(1) a model expert with hands on experience. This type of person is usually found through the local marque and model-specific club/group.

(2) an electronic film thickness gauge.

(3) PPi by an unaffiliated shop with solid experience in the specific model.

Shock towers look bad from what I can see:

and the patched-up floor boards, rust peeking through the rockers

Yeah that engine looked pretty dicey to me too. Thanks for the input everyone and the encouragement. Big help!!!
I have restored quite a few cars over the years and am doing 2 right now. So ... I know well to spend upfront for a clean car verse suffer later.
That is such good advice.
So "hope springs eternal", maybe one day a good non- original one will pop up.
Thanks again guys. You might enjoy by fun hobby webpage.
