Drove past it today. I was in a car going 40 mph and I was more than 20' away, and it looked a little rough.

This is the one that I believe was for sale a little while back in San Francisco, then this guy bought it and like a week later had it back up for sale which is never a good sign. It did look promising initially, if I lived closer it would have been worth a look see, but not sure anymore.

Appreciating new owner

I like the description. The car is for an appreciating new owner. The car, of course, is not appreciating.

Yeah, it's pretty grungy up close. Stopped and did a walkaround last Saturday. Bubbling in the usual places on the hood and trunklid, plus the c-pillar. The beltline moulding on the driver's-side rear quarter panel has been screwed (through the trim) onto the body. The upholstery is discolored in a lot of places, and the front seat cushions have been reupholstered with a non-matching perforated vinyl in the inserts.

Here's what I don't understand: the last seller was asking somewhere in the neighborhood of $3,000-3,500; it's now listed at nearly $6k. If you want to double your money flipping a POS like this, why wouldn't you at least invest $60 for a new rear door moulding (the only piece of beltline trim you can still get from BMW), $20 for a turn signal lens, and $25 each for the armrest/door pull caps - $180 total, all readily available parts, plus about an hour to install it all - and clean the interior to at least make it present a little nicer?

Corvair kid:

In answer to your somewhat rhetorical question, I suggest that the "greater fool" theory might apply here. It doesn't matter what I pay because the next guy will pay me a profit.

Like in musical chairs, you do not want to be standing when the music stops!
