With all of the discussion on the desire to see rising coupe prices, which I agree is a good thing, I see an ad like this.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-..._Cars_Trucks&hash=item35b8e4ec8a#ht_902wt_948

From the ad:

"This is a CA car that has recently been restored." Then why does seller say there is paint bubbling. Why did he replace some leather with vinyl, because he says it holds up longer. He put in a used engine, was it rebuilt? He repainted the engine compartment, but in black? Exterior photos look good, but I wouldn't consider or recommend to a prospective coupe owner that this is a $30K coupe. Rising prices need to parallel the condition, this one doesn't in my opinion. I have seen many $30, $40 and $50K coupes and the price was warranted by the condition and/or mods and the integrity of the seller who provided an honest perspective on the true condition and any faults. It isn't always a good thing when a coupe goes for a "rising price/value" like this one. I would feel bad for an uninformed buyer at this price. Just one person's opinion though.

Chris,

i'm with you on this one for sure. its an automatic to boot. this looks like a 15k to 18k car at best. i have seen cars for 12k to 15k that i would rather buy.

What's with all the inflated asking prices lately. Sure it will be fantastic to get these kind of prices, but the reality is most of these coupes are worth about half of what the sellers are asking for.

Everyone wants to see coupe prices reflect the general rarity and desirability of the cars themselves. Some just seem to take a more activist role in trying to raise the tide with their own sale regardless of the real-world condition of their personal car.

Hope the seller gets his price, but the car looks all-around tired in the photos and a black engine compartment always looks wrong to my eye unless your car is schwarz.

Not to be uncharitable, but looks like 7-9K to me. Maybe better photos would help.

I agree with all of the comments. A positive going for this car is that it appears to be a long term California car as shown by the CA blue license plates. Other than that, the automatic tranny, vinyl interior replacement, black engine bay, rust bubbling back up, replacement engine and tranny etc. does not justify the high price the seller wants.

It seems the less informed sellers out there have more appreciation for the value of our cars than the opinionated owners do. Sure they are trying to sell the car for top dollar, but it just seems so strange to me that we practically riducle them for what they are asking, when one day, heaven forbid, we would want to sell our coupes for top dollar. If his car gets close to the asking price, it probably makes your car worth more; but no, we'd rather blast him for daring to believe he has a desirable classic that someone will pay top dollar for.

What do you say to the potential buyer who is trying to talk us down in price. Hmmm, I'd rather negotiate from the standpoint that average coupes go for $29K (as this guy wants) and basket cases go for $15K. Hope he gets every penny he's asking, it will raise the bar for everyone.

The hyperbole is killing me....

"I have the r12 refills for this as well, which is almost impossible to get.
