When I turn the key the electric fuel pump hums, the dash lights go on and...that's it.No indication of starter activity.Checked starter relay on brake booster..it's missing!Looks like wires from firewall and trans are plugged into each other.Car has been undergoing a lengthy refreshening including a dash redo at which time I eliminated the gear indicating light panel by unplugging the wires and putting panel in a box, leaving wires from trans secured to underdash.Do I need to do something with these wires?Car had been showing signs of not starting before but it always seemed to be caused by low battery. In fact drove car around block and parked for 2 days and now it won't start at all.As far as I know the car never had a starter relay and still started.Could I have just a starter issue?

Not sure if an automatic such as yours is different, but check the connections in the start circuit, especially the 3-wire connector which, IIRC, is on top or near the brake booster shaft. I had a problem with this connector until I pulled it apart and cleaned it out as best as possible. Solenoid won't get voltage (via the black wire) if this connector is faulty. Is the ignition barrel switch OK, i.e. it's not spinning around or otherwise broken? Check these things before you pull the starter.

Started!!Played with every wire I could find and one was the culprit.Don't know which one?!Anyway it drives.Bummer was I missed my hard to get appointment for mechanic to do PA state inspection now I have to wait another 2 weeks.Always something. Thanks for all the tips!
