74 CSI in San Diego 100K Restoration

1974 BMW 3.0 CSI
Complete nut and bolt restoration.
Ready to go to a new collector.
All numbers matching, one of the best.
$100,000 Concours restoration.

I wonder how much of the $100,000 went into that expensive-looking steering wheel cover?

Ya know, it's not THAT hard to spend $1,000 a hundred times; especially if you do absolutely no work yourself.

But for $100k, it better either be super clean before the restoration, or acid dipped and galvanzed and rotisserie restored. And every drivetrain piece be restored (engine, trans, rear end, suspension).

For $100K you expect attention to detail which is missing here, e.g. the strut bearing bolts, PS reservoir cap, relays, etc.

Only two sentences on this coupe, the vast majority is copied from the web.

Hope the 100K figure is not real. If so the only nut cleaned was the guy who spent that much for that level of restoration.

Here's a fair comparison '74 CSi sale car vs. Athena by VSR.

I didn't know Duralast was "concurs" and they could have removed the dent in the radiator. Would a 74 have those seat belts? Who are these people?? A power washer and a bottle of monkey-spooge would make most cars look like that. Just my opinion, not meaning to offend :-)

And, as usual, the upholsterer who restored the front seats omitted the side bolster pieces on the seat backs; not what the factory did.

I went and looked at this and felt it did not live up, It was done by Ben at csi and would never deal with him based on what I saw!,,,, Anyone know of a nice car for sale? I'm looking!

Not to mention pleats running in the wrong direction, even for a euro 74, if I'm not mistaken...

Yep...

The seat patterns are from a 1973 or earlier....

But then, shouldn't the steering wheel be different on a 1974 as well?

Seat Belts, bumpers, and the seat upholstery pattern (I wonder if the front seats bottoms are 'deeper' as the '74's were) are all like a '72. '73 had extended bumpers and the '74's were of course very different.

So - restoration with modification/customization is a better term for the car.

PS: See following post: Chris - Yep, I forgot about the Euro version part! Thanks for correcting my poor 'analysis'. Still a little surprised about the seat belts, didn't know the '73 type carried over into '74 in Europe. Cheers,
