Looks like a nice car for those looking-if truly not rusty. A/C even. No affiliation, blah blah blah.

Consider the difference between this and the partial restorations available & discussed here and the dollars involved therein.

Now on Ebay

This car...

...is the same discussed on this thread. The seller was asking $25k and the dealer is selling it for $25k. I saw and drove the car last year. Nice enough but the overspray was rampant in the engine compartment. There was no history that the owner could could provide me. Engine was smoking upon stomping it and the door speakers were ratty but otherwise presented well.

Just curious -

The photo of the paint sticker says "PVC free", was this how they came in '74?
I thought PVC, CFC, etc, and etc weren't thought of as problems until the late 70's early 80's

Gotta' love that the consignment dealer managed to get the listing in the "3 series" category and while they did appear to detail it, I agree that the oil slick of Armor All is not doing the car any favors. No speaker covers, but they did leave the cover on the dash. Details I know, but what is the seller paying a commission for if not some attention to the minor details in the listing?

Somehow, those photos shot on the floor at mid day manage to be worse than the dark CL shots too. And as noted on over spray, why is it that painters rarely miss a chance to paint the wiper motor and arm?

Best of luck to possible buyer. Still looks okay at some $ level although repaint over euro oxidation is a game of chance.

Well, someone has bought it. The ebay listing shows that the seller pulled the ad because the car is no longer available.

I thought the fender liners looked fairly original - a good sign (ee first photo below). I didn't love the chunky red steering wheel rim & gearshift knob (see second photo), but those are easy to change.

It is amazing to me how many coupes have sold online but the new owners don't seem to join this board. These are vehicles that need an infrastructure of support which the members here can provide. Perhaps the new owners realize after purchase what they have done and then just try to recoup their investment or minimize their loss and pass them along to another unsuspecting or uninformed buyer?

We have almost 10% of U.S. spec coupes in our Registry which leads me to believe that there is at least another 10% out there or maybe a little more. If anyone comes across a coupe for sale at least get the VIN, color and location and I will add it to the Registry.

Chris,

I agree it's surprising but let's look at a few of the cars recently for sale and their owners. The car in this thread was owned by a 75+ YO guy in not the best of health. His mechanic (who was not a BMW dealership, BTW as the ad claims) tries to sell it for him. The burnt orange car in NY recently posted, also owned by a non-enthusiast who gives it to a pseudo-broker to sell. The Golf CS recently for sale in NJ. Also being sold by an older guy who, although a fan of BMWs is not as hard core of an enthusiast to log onto the boards or the internet except to Ebay it. Maybe it's a generational thing...?

Luis, All good points but if you want a coupe most buyers would do a "little" research and e9coupe.com shows up on all search engines. Maybe these recent sales are impluse purchases? If so the new owners are in a for a surprise!

:)
