Anyone know the difference between 74 e9 fuel tank and an earlier one?
Can an earlier one (say 72 or 73) be used in a 74?
What changes are needed?

As far as I recall, they aren’t interchangeable. For the pre face lift cars the tank is installed/ bolted on from inside the trunk whereas the later type are installed/ bolted on from under the car!

The face lift (upgrades) took place in the 1974/75 cars. @HB Chris has been putting together a comprehensive list on the differences between the 2 types

As to fuel tank, I was only able to note the size increase to 70L in the 3.0s from the smaller ones in the 2800s. Thre were no statements about fitment.

Im sure you’ll get more answers when the group wakes up :) , from the 74/75 car owners. Although I’m pretty sure I have your tank question answered correctly

Fuel tank enlarged from 70 to 72L, now mounted from below trunk, fuel return line added from carbs to tank

There you go.......

Got it. Thank you very much for your dedication.
Now I'm going to see if anyone has a good '74 fuel tank to trade for my good pre 1974 gas tank.
