Im about to get my front seats redone. But before I do this I want to make sure that I'm using a good base. When I bought my car the original seats were replaced by the PO with Recaro's. I found a set of what I believe are the correct 74 seats however they are cloth and I would like to have them redone in leather. They do have the horizontal pleats and the top corner and sides seem to be sown correctly. I've posted a couple of pictures. Would appreciate it if someone could verify before I spend $$$$ to redo them. Thanks

I'm mid-way through redoing the seats in my '74. I had World Upholstery send me a re-covering kit and I'm building the foam up myself to my taste. Having spent a number of hours with each of the constituent parts, I'd say your seats look like the ones in my '74. And if you look at this thread:

....you'll see in PaulinPa's photos that looking under the seats should confirm that you have the right year.

So based on those photos, I'd say 'very likely'. And as to whether they're good candidates, I'd say that if the levers that unlatch the seat backs operate well enough and if there aren't any broken springs, you will probably not be disappointed. Share pictures when done!

Re: the top corners of the seats, in nearly all the re-dos that I have seen the re-upholsterer will omit the side seam and instead wrap the leather around/over the top corner with neat folds. In the factory leather seats there is a seam that runs along the seat-back edge (sorry about the terminology-hope you can follow, and I don't have a picture) where the side piece is stitched to the back-piece. Most shops cut the back-piece and side-piece as one piece to omit the extra steps. Just saying if you want to go authentic....
