Guys i know this question is off titlt on the site but i need a small bit of advice. I dear cousin bought a 1998 740il recent, she put new breaks roters, water pump on it and then realized that the car is to expensive to maintain on her salery. The car is in great shape runs beautifully, not rips in interi, or dents some minor scratches, asking $3500, i am in the beginning stages of my 3.0 restor and i wanted to know if this is a good buy or a potential black hole $$$$$$

Well, the V8 can be expensive to maintain and has known issues, browse Bimmerfest Forums for more info. Common areas of concern are water pump, thermostat, radiator and expansion tank, idler pulley bearings, P/S hoses, front thrust arm bushings, final stage resistor (controls vent fan), etc. I had an e39 525, great car but it needs to be maintained regularly.
