I checked out this 80 528i yesterday in Paso Robles CA that advertised in the local Craigslist.
http://slo.craigslist.org/cto/1861098247.html I just wanted to check it out by the 1 in a 100 chance it has a limited slip sideloader, you don't know till you go check it out.
The E12 was last registered in 2005 and according to the owner, (says title is in his name) the car was not registered non-op which is a huge flag to run away. Seller said don't worry, it will fall off the DMV rolls in a year or two. The car was in a single one car garage which was full of junk to include stuff stored on top of the car. The reason it's for sale, the seller wants the garage space back for his tools. The tires were flat on the car and it was a bitch getting the jack under the rear differential to jack up the car to check to see if the car had a LSD. After I had jacked up the car, I put the car in neutral I turned the drivers side wheel and the other wheel didn't even move. It was scary getting in the car, the blue leather front seats were trashed and I could swear I thought I heard critters in the car.
Clear coat is totally shot (original color was a dark blue) dash has lots of cracks in it. Owner says the car started having electrical problems after a car stereo shop installed a stereo, and after that, the car started going through ECU's.
It's only good as a parts car, (5 speed only) and I didn't even check the gearshifter to see if it was really a 5 speed because their was so much dust and crap in the car. But seller says it's a 5 speed. It's a rust free original CA blue plate car. Owner wants it gone, will take a lot less than the advertised price. Owner said he had it parked in his back yard for three years. Back yard looked something out of Sanford and Sons TV show. I hate to think of the critters that built nests in the car. I didn't even up the hood, so much crap in his garage was piled up on top of the hood and I didn't know what might jump out at me. In fact, it was hard to get in the car to put the car in neutral due to so much crap in the garage. Offer $100 max if you really need the 5 speed. Then you have to deal with DMV after you buy it and they will want all their back fees due, it's not worth it.... It will end up in the local pik-a-part yard is my best guess. Seller should pay someone to haul it away if he wants to free up garage space...
