Seems like a lot of money for a project car with a questionably dismantled engine. I was out of the bidding at $40K.

I don't believe a damn of the validity of that ebay auction. Same seller had a 1600 cabrio and a 2002 (targa) cabrio for sale on eaby at the same time. Same people were bidding on all three auctions, bet you it were his buddies. I would not take the "winning bid" as an indication of the value of a 503 in the condition as the one on ebay.
