I couldn't refuse this invitation from Markos...
@Dick Steinkamp,
If you are bored, start an OT post on this car. I've always wanted a V8 914. I also want a V8 early Volvo 244. I love how wide your car hobby goes. I hyper forcus on a single car for a decade then move on. I only have 5 years left to get my car restored before I need to start something new.
...over at Gary's broken timing chain thread.
I do have a "wide" car hobby. I lust after MANY different cars but I'm not a rich guy nor do I have a lot of storage space so I have to own them in series. For me the hobby is the project. When I've finished one, something has to go in order for me to continue my idea of "the hobby". I also have a short attention span. I need a variety of makes, models, years, etc. to keep me researching, learning, meeting new car guys, creating new networks.
My way of enjoying the hobby is very different from those that focus on one make and model or even one year. I've got a buddy who has the same '50 Olds hot rod he had in high school in 1959. He has as much fun (or more) as I do with the hobby. It all works.
I currently have the Bavaria that I just finished...
A '77 MGB that I backdated and installed a 3.5 Rover aluminum V8 and T5...
(I just realized I finished this car 4 years ago...and STILL own it. A record? Here's a short story about a trip I took in it when it was fresh. According to my sig, I had my all original 1930 Model A Tudor and an all original 1969 W114 at that time.)
...and the 914 with a Chevy V8...
The 914 I started with was a rust free SoCal desert, one owner car that had been torn down for a broken engine and a repaint 20 years ago. With a lot of help from Renegade Hybrids, Kennedy Engineered Products, and the 914World, I installed the 5 liter Chevy V8, backdated the bumpers, and restored the rest.
Here's some pics of the finished car.
Here's some pics from the build.
A few of my buddy Paul applying the sealer and color.
