Has anyone run into an issue where the A/C compressor and crank position sensor brackets get in each other's way on a 3.5 running Motronic 1.3?

I've got the old York, but the system is otherwise upgraded to R134 so happy to get a newer (smaller) compressor if someone can give me a firm steer on compressor/bracket tandem (part number or model/year to source from if possible) that is working in their set-up.

Thanks,
Garrett

I took one look at the york and quit... The next version e12 528i that I call the "torpedo" requires a fairly big notch cut in the bracket , so now I go with the same unit that comes on the mid '80 to mid '90 cars. The small bosch unit with no rear seal. Of course you will need custom hoses made because the fittings have changed over the years.

Garrett,

I have an extra bracket off of a 1991 735i that would work. I had previously obtained the same bracket for an earlier conversion to R134 and fuel injection on my 3.0 motor. This bracket and the VR sensor bracket fit together on the m30 block. I now have them mounted on the 3.5 block from 735i. I used a newer Bosch compressor. I did need to have new hoses fabricated since the inlet and outlet ports are in different location than on the York unit. You can also delete the dampener jar in the system (the piece that is similar in size to the dryer). I will be back on Monday and can find the part numbers if interested. I may even have some photos.

Bracket/Compressor ID

Sven, thanks for the offer of the bracket and pics and would love to have these -- please PM me when you get back. Would it be possible to ID the specific Bosch A/C compressor you're using -- that would be terrific.

I've got a compressor lifted off an early '90s 7-series (I think) with PN 1382668 but this doesn't cross reference to any known BMW application. It may not even be good, so was considering buying a remanufactured compressor until I did a bit of research on the cost. Holy smokes! Anyone have any cost effective sourcing suggestions?

I've heard there used to be an R134 conversion kit with reasonably priced Japanese compressor and custom bracket. But appears to have been discontinued.

The bracket I have is PN 1 284 953. Pictures attached. I am not sure what the compressor brand is. I think it is a remanufactured Bosch unit. The invoice says it is for a BMW 325, 528, 535, 735, 533, E30 E28 - not much help. To work with this bracket the compressor needs to have two sets of mounting ears, bottom and top. The width of the upper compressor mount is 52mm (to inside of ears) and the lower is 83mm (to outside).
