Guys,

i just got a set of hella 71156 H1 headlights. unfortunately, the instructions were for h4 lamps ... which i already have. so here's my question, i see that the connectors don't match our plug ... although the lamps do come w/ 2 separate wires.

here's my guess, you push the 2 wires thru the rubber cover, place the wires on the plugs ... then plug into the harness.

here's my question, there is a white wire and a brown wire. i can figure out where they go on the wiring harness ... i just don't know which one goes to the bulb and which goes to the other spade connector.

a 2nd question - what do the instructions recommend for getting the spade connectors thru the rubber cover

if you know this, please let me know ASAP
thanks

scott

White is the center on the headlight side, brown is the outside away from center. The same brown/white colors are used on the other side of the plug so it is easy to get that right.

It has been a while but I recall there was a notch on the rubber cover where you could open it cut with a screwdriver or knife to let the wire/spade through.

The plug is left hanging there, so I wrapped the contacts with electric tape just in case.

thanks Arde,

i found that the Hella rubber cover, that came w/ the halogen lights) had the numbers on it that matched the BMW wiring diagram. i found them when i was looking at the cover to cut it, to get the connectors thru. so it really was self explanatory once i really took everything apart + looked at it.

its all back together ... after a little detour, the P.O. had the high beam buckets reversed from side to side. so i had to take the entire light housings off and reverse the buckets, then put it all back together again. i was wondering why General Electric was upside down ... and why i couldn't adjust the up/down of the light very easily.

thanks again.
