In April 2008 e9coupe.com joined the 1 million hit club! A total of 1,063,408 hits were logged on the site! I think about half of them were from Malc, but who's counting. ;-)

Congratulations! Maybe Microsoft will acquire the site now that the Yahoo deal stalled...

this is a fantastic site and a great community!

who deserves the praise for setting e9coupe.com? truly is a great site....

perhaps you should offer to integrate the CS Registry and do your own M&A work following Microsoft's lead

thanks again for a great site, content and ease to use format

I'm afraid that part of the reason why this site exists is because of the Registry. I wasn't around for it, but apparently, the Registry got a bit off topic and became quite the nasty place to be. Some people wanted to leave and make their own group, which is what this has become. Quite a few of the members knew eachother on the Registry first.

So, I highly doubt the Registry will ever have much of anything to do with this site.

I wouldn't say the registry got nasty so much as it just got weird. There's the long running rivalry with the e3 list (Senior Six Registry), which is mostly harmless but hard for some of the e9 people to deal with due to unrelieved sphincter tension. There were some heated discussions (yep, I was in some of them), but also, Art W going off on whack tangents, and the really weird behavior of his former (current?) better half, Marilyn the exhibitionist geologist.

This site has managed to keep what many other enthusiast message boards lose -- civility, and focus on the cars. We should give ourselves a collective "atta boy" for that accomplishment, and do all we can to maintain it. As far as BMW sites go, there's us, the First Fives e12 board, and the e24 groups on Roadfly and the BCG among the sane. The SSR is not sane, but beautifully insane, and all the rest are troll kingdoms.

I don't know, Bimmerforums does all right, as long as you stay out of the 3-er sections. I think the only thing wrong there is the high number of brain-dead teenage owners. ("what are the biggest rims I can fit? when does VTEC kick in? where are the bodykits? what do you mean by rear wheel drive?") There are a few wise members, and I have pointed every E9 owner I see on the board over here.

I'd say a large part of the reason behind the civility is the higher average age and general maturity of our members. Nobody here is an uppity 13yo pretending to have lots of cars and more than one neuron rattling around up there. As such, since everybody is a reasonable adult, we can all have intelligent discussions without things getting out of hand. Also, being more mature generally means people listen when given good information, rather than fighting every step of the way with idiotic preconceptions and ignorance. Similarly, in terms of modifications, I'd say this group is very tolerant compared to the majority of vintage car groups, where only vitrol and vilification awaits those that try and update their car. Of course, this is likely because almost all of our cars are modded.

Tony- I must admit, you have piqued my curiosity. What sort of strangeness plauged the Registry due to Art and his wife? It sounds like a bad sitcom.

If I had to pick one reason that caused the creation of this board it would have to be when Merdad was banned from Roadfly for posting a link to an E9 for sale on Ebay. Roadfly admins banned him and we all got angry and left. Thanks Roadfly!!
