I thought I'd share this as it's tickled me pink. In this country one can write off to the part of the government that maintains a database of all the owners of road cars and ask for past owner information. I did this for my car and got the names and addresses of the previous owners. I wrote off to the 4 previous owners seeking any info at all but wasn't really expecting any of them to be at the same addresses or to even be still alive. I was delighted to hear back from the second owner (1980-85) who not only could fondly recount a few anecdotes but sent an old invoice and photographs.

Was interesting to see that the car originally had a vinyl roof, spent time in Italy, had a replaced cylinder head and was a 'marvellous car' and the 'only one of its type in the country at that time'. I'm not sure what that last part means but it sounds good to me. Anyway, in case anyone's interested:

That's cool, I tried to contact the original owner of my car seeking same, she is still alive but did not respond.

Well in this country you can only get past owner information for a new spouse.
Once I was looking at used car in a dealership and found PO name in the glove box, found her number in L.A. and called to ask about the car. She was pretty agitated I tracked her down, but after a minute became more friendly and gave me good info. Must be my soothing voice and refined manners...

Anyway, back to your story, marvelous car and only kept it a year? Shipped it to Italy and changed the whole appearance of the car? Destroyed all the records as soon as legally possible. There is something rotten here. What part of Italy was it? Calabria? BTW, the italian look of the car is great!
Sounds like the stolen car laundering done in South America through Paraguay...
No wonder the names were redacted.

Just kidding...

The Italian set-up looks like it has my air dam (made by a period English Alpina tuner). My dam doesn't have the air duct ports though.

cool story and thanks for sharing.

I tracked down a past owner once to ask about a car. He was not impressed, nor too happy about that.

Past life

Good stuff. The stories those reclining seats could tell....sounds like the makings of a good chick flick. Hmmmm, Perhaps Ranman has some interested movie connections.
Sorry guys, must be the pain meds.

I don't get that. I'd be more than happy to oblige. Unless I was tracked down to my home and the guy came in through the window.

Would be interested to hear what they'd say about their retrim. The car now sports a light grey leather interior and I can see in the above photographs that it was originally navy (presumably velour).
