I daresay there are a few here who appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into the construction of a wooden boat so thought I would share this story with you. Some 30 + years ago when I was in my early '20's ,I bought a boat by the name of "Ranee" ( meaning Queen/Princess) after an ad was spotted by my then girlfriend . Suffice to say a purchase followed and great times were had cruising on our iconic Swan River. Not long after , the girlfriend split and I was left with Ranee .
After a number of years , Ranee was damaged on her mooring and required some work and was subsequently taken out of the water . The shipwright also noted a number of ribs were broken too so it became the classic "while we're in there ...". Yes, I know "they're a hole in the water you throw money in to ". Anyway, long story short , she was repaired and put back on the mooring. Sadly, some of the planks had not fully swelled and she took on water and sank ( with the newly installed diesel engine !). The boat was salvaged and I had other things going on so I sold her . Recently, I was wondering what became of her ...I knew she was a "Rugged" design by well know naval architect , Len Randall ...so I googled "Len Randall Rugged" which took me to a post on Wooden Boat for a guy that was restoring a Rugged. In his post , he had a link showing his work ...I followed the link and was gobsmacked ...it was Ranee ! https://goo.gl/photos/vivYiVgfLRDfqg4i6
At the time of writing , I have just been accepted as a member on the boat Forum so I hope to track the new owner down and see my former "mistress". Cheers, Simon
PS. The workmanship looks exceptional to me and very "De Q" like ...photos even feature thumbs
