Hello Folks,
Tomorrow night I will be opening up the Limited Slip differential that came with my 1971 CS2800. I have never done anything like this before. But I am meeting up with a friend who works on high end vintage Ford racing cars such as Cobras and Shelby. He tried to steer me away from having him involved but I talked him into it and he finally said ..." bmw SLD is Greek to me , but bring it by and we figure it out.."

Any help , or suguestions you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated.
I already looked up the parts availability from another thread where SFdon pointed out the parts supplier ...I looked up a video on YouTube putting one back together but not sure if it is exact same type of LSD .... I read some threads from other BMW clubs about upgrading the LSD by adding one two or more clutches..
I also remember a thread that one member opened up E9 LSD and put it back together . BUT I CANT FIND IT...
Parts schematics or exposed view would also be nice ....
I am now going back to realoem to see what I can find...
Looking forward to hearing from you.....

Cheers!
Tony P.

Do I Need any special tool to be able to pull it appart. By the way my intention is to inspect the parts inside, change bearing , seals and possibly clutch and dog ear and put it back together.

As for start to take out inner lsd case you will need something like this:
33 11 060 - Removal and fitting of driving flange _ 33 - Rear Axle _ BMW 2.5CS - 3-page-001.jpg

Thank you Wladek!
Do you think if these tools are something I can fabricate in house ? I have plenty of tools in-house that I can drill and cut heavy duty sheet metal !!

Few weeks ago I ran across a thread that one of the members pulled out the LsD apart and put it back together ! I have tried to find it to no avail ...

Thanks you Wladek!

I've never used a holding tool- try to gun it off first. They usually come off really easy.

Thanks Don!
We have a heavy duty air gun I can use. And I will use some penetrant oil just in case if it rusted....
how about the inside ? Do I need any special tool for the inside aside from torque wrench for assembly ?

I have to ask- why would you take something apart that you don't know how to put back together?
LSD is $800.00 to rebuild parts and labor.
Have you read the repair manual on this?
18 pages.
Have you read the break in procedure?
Torque is 20 Ncm

Thanks Don!
I really appreciate your input, and guidance... I don't have anything except general shop tools . I don't have the 18 page manuals either. Where do I get that ? I thought about opening it up and inspecting the parts with my friend who has done many Amercian made race differentials. Then order the parts and get torque specs and put on the new seals and bearings and wait until the car is running (which would be months before the engine and transmission would be in it ) to test it.
Which shop would you recommend for rebuild? Someone had suggested Pete's Gearshop?
Cheers !

I think I would order the parts before I took it apart.
You have a pic of the output flange?
Why not verify you have all the parts before you open up.
Nice to work with a shop that has a stock of shims for input and output.
Shims are six weeks from germany

Don
We opened it and here are the pictures. I believe I have a 40% since real OEM shows two versions with the same schematics.
