I just had my AC rebuilt and I'm using the blower switch for the first time.

Initially only the full on position was working, so I've sprayed it with contact cleaner and worked it back and forth.

I'm now getting some "intermediate" speeds, but it ranges from 5% to 10% all the way up, then a huge jump to 100%. So really not any useful intermediate speeds.

Is this right? Is there a replacement switch anyone would recommend?

hmmm

take it apart and clean the innards? The switch at least works, so this could be risky as you have something to lose.

I cleaned the rheostat coil and arm with a small piece of 500 grit sandpaper and contact cleaner and I got the variable feature to work. IIRC it is riveted together so take that into consideration if splitting it open.

thanks guys....I sanded the rheostat a bit and got a little better intermediate speeds but still 90% on the knob is maybe 20% flow, then that final click jumps to 100% flow.

Oh well....good enough for now. I'm happy just to have cold air!
