AC compressor not working

Since a week or so, only the fan is working when the swich knob is turned.
The guys at the local Bosch shop say the compressor gets its power via the medium, black wire crossing the bulkhead in the same hole as the tubing.
It then leads to the reostat? behind the grille above the radio. I can see the spade contact through the ribs.
When they add power from the glovebox light, onto the black wire, the compressor gets going.

None of the normal fuses are blown, as far as I can see.
What might have happened?

One more thing to check besides the other post: sometimes the temperature switch gets turned in a manner that the elec connection on the switch and wire comes loose.

If the dial is too far to the right say past two or three o'clock, turn it hard to the left to see if it will reset the connection itself. ( worked last week; now doesn't) Might have to take a side panel off and receck in to make sure the bottom mounted connector is properly seated.
