AC fan in my car was behind a big condenser from 535i ( 1958 I think). I am restoring & redoing the whole car. Is this a proper location or should it be installed in front of the condenser behind front grill?

Yes: from the factory front to back: aux/ac fan then condenser then normal rad.

Hi Jahan -- your fan is not in the correct place. Given that I can see the inside of your hood in that picture, you have the fan mounted on the back of the condenser, between the condenser and the radiator. The fan should be on the front of the condenser and it should be a pusher fan. I mounted a SPAL 14" pusher fan (https://www.summitracing.com/parts/SPU-IX-30100382. I blocked off the top and bottom edge of the fan where it extends just a tiny bit from the top and bottom of the condenser.

Thanks. How noisy is the SPAL fan? So a 14" should fit. The picture is from the time I removed the engine. This is how it was when I bought the car! The car is getting the final paint & be ready to install the engine & drive train soon

Yes, a 14" fan is about max. size in that space. I had to install it from the rear (i.e., before the main radiator went in). Also, you may want to fabricate custom brackets, or just use the cheapo plastic zip ties the fan manufacturers provide).
