Okay... summer is right around the corner and the CS will "hopefully" be torn down for interior & paint soon. While it's apart I want to explore adding air conditioning. The later Coupes came with optional AC and their center console accommodates the additional vents and hardware....unfortunately, the earlier CSs did not come with AC and I have yet to find a pic of even a dealer-installed unit.

I'd very much like to keep this car as original looking as possible and don't want to hack the center console or add something that looks tacky.

We've been discussing aftermarket AC over on 2002FAQ and there are some interesting ideas, but I wanted to get some Coupe-specific ideas for my dilemma.

Here are a couple Google pics of the early and later consoles.

I wonder how a later console might look in the CS? I would not molest the dash in order to make that work...

I know there are some new aftermarket systems available that are quite small (not sure how well they would cool the CS with all the glass these cars have (I am in Central Texas and temps will be in the 100s for long periods of time) This one started the conversation on FAQ https://www.southernrods.com/a-c-and-heat-components/all-new-mini-kooler-complete-kit.html

Another idea over on FAQ has the evaporator and fan in the trunk... not sure how everything is ducted, but that would be stealthy and keep the console unmolested.

Any ideas are welcome.

Thanks,

I'm sure if you did it right it would look near factory. I am considering using the AC console sides in my interior even though I don't have AC. I like the profile better and it lends itself to aftermarket gauge instalation.
