what is different about the '74 compared to the earlier cars? wasn't aware there was a difference here

you mean your car is different? just kidding Alan. to my knowledge all a/c grilles on the e9 are the same ... but its slightly different on the e3. Chris will certainly shed some light on this if i am incorrect ... and then i would learn something else today ... which is a good thing.
Rob, i might just be wrong ... but i think Alan is looking for side vents.
What's an AC side vent for an e9?

while we are on this subject - who know (off hand) what size screws hold these vents in place? my console isn't here or i would run outside and measure.
THERE ABOUT THEW SMALLEST SCREWS USED.
USED SOME OTHER SCREWS THAT SMALL AND PAINTED THEM BLACK
NEED TO PAINT ONE STILL
AS U CAN SEE ONE OF THE SLATS ARE BROKE
TRIED TO MAKE ONE BUT TOO OBVIOUS
