I sold all the 265’s I had with speedo drives installed, so now I am road testing the trans without speedo gears. My question concerns the shim that rides between the bearing and the gear that turns the speedo shaft gear. On the parts diagram there are different thickness shims, I would guess you remove the shim and spacer in the non speedo trans, measure the thickness of them total henmeasure the thickness of the speedo drive gear and order the shim…Has anyone done this? Wondering if the shims are available..

Someone here bought the gear set from me a while back, and I remember I had to go back and pull the shim and/or they ordered some shims…Anyone here have some shims?

The speedometer pinion is installed with the support washer 30x42x2,5.

The size of the shim is calculated to flush mount the bearing. It was available as 0,1mm or 0,3mm. It stays in place as it is.
If the speedometer pinion is not installed in your gearbox you will have to add both the pinion and the support washer.
The pinion seems to be still available with BMW, the support washer not.
