Has anyone any experience with this early, NK front suspension piece? The idler arm is adjustable like a worm gear steering box, plus it appears to have a fill port on it. This is on my '67, 2000CS... What lube should I put in it?

Thanks, in advance.

It's working smoothly, Don. Just hoping to know more about it. Curiosity may have me take the top off of it to see how it's put together...

Why oh why would this part be made that way? The joint is only a sleeve with a rod rotating in it... what's to adjust? I can see the usefulness of being able to grease it, but why isn't there a zerk fitting like so many other 60's cars?

I can imagine if the rod is split on a slant relative to its long axis into two wedge-shaped bits, if there's wear, one tightens down the two wedges and they expand to fit the sleeve.

Yes let's open it and see what there is! Then clean it up nice and shiny and put it all back together. Don't lose any little parts, probably NLA geologic ages ago.

Is this just another example of BMW's propensity to overcomplicate things? Open to enlightenment...

Here's the schematic from the blue parts book. It appears the standard, "top hat" bushings are located within the housing. The rubber plug is an "oil filler plug"

Well... there ya go. Glad it's not loose and wonky.

Well...lookie there. Thanks Don.

I'd bet it's never been opened and any oil in it is now pure glop. Yay.
