1973 3.0CS... Question about Adjusting Idle with Auto Trans.

3.0CS with Auto Trans

I got the car to run and drive great except the idle is very low when in drive (500 RPM) and the car sometimes will die at a stop light. In neutral the car idles perfectly at around 900-1000 rpm. But when I put the car into gear the idle will drop to 500 RPM. If I set the idle higher the car lurches when shifting into gear...

I seems like the trans needs to slip a little more while the car is not moving.

I noticed that the shifts are very positive and the car often chirps the tires when shifting from 1st to 2nd. Is there a way to make the torque converter in the trans slip a tiny bit more. Can the valve body on the trans be adjusted like on an MB Auto Trans?

Any ideas?

mmm....

1. Zeniths on CSAs ran a leaner idle mix. Try for that, which may have helped back in the day when they were new. The Webbers may be a bit fat at idle.

2. Adjust all the linkage per the bluebook. Kickdown a bit tight?

3. What type trans fluid? Yes, they can change shifts. Maybe just needs a good flush.

4. Band adjustment. Might be a bit tight.

Yes, there's a way to change up the valving. But I've long forgot about a two speed powerglyde behind 600 hp L88 back in the good ol' days; but man it was fun. That's a pro's job.

Trans was a little bit low.... Shifting might be a little better

The Trans fluid was just a little low and filling it up might have helped the firm shifting issue.... Who would have thunk:)?
