Gents,
I am replacing all of the brake lines on my '72 E9 4-speed. I ordered the pre-bent set of hard lines from Ireland Engineering, and so far have been very satisfied. They responded quickly via email and shipped the kit immediately. I have also been impressed with the pre-bent lines. Everything fit well with very little modification. All of my lines are installed with the exception of the long central line from the brake master cylinder to the rear pressure regulator.

My question:
Can this line be replaced with engine and drivetrain still in the car? Does anyone have experience with this? I'm guessing many of us must!

This is the only line that Ireland does not supply as pre-bent. It's shipped as a coil, so that does offer me a lot of "wiggle room" as I try to thread it through the tunnel. But I'm doing this myself. Car on jack-stands, me on creeper (ugh). Task looks daunting. Any advice, suggestions, tips would be enormously appreciated!

Thanks,
Philip

Call Karps in Los Angeles. 909-985-0800. You will need to send him the length. He can make the line for you with flare fittings. He will then roll it up and ship it to you as a coil. The line he uses is easy to bend using your thumbs, no tools needed. Its helpful to have the old line to use as a template. I would start from the master cylinder andwork your way to the fire wall. There are body tabs along the driver's side transmission tunnel that will hold the line. use vacuum hose to shim the line against the body clip so it doesn't rattle and eventually damage the line. Karps will also rebuild your brake booster if you haven't already done so.

You can buy a flare kit for 30 bucks and do it yourself. It is super easy on these cars, easier than what you have already done. Just remember to put the pressure fitting on first, before you flare..........
