Folks,
I have had a trawl of the previous posts using the search facility, but couldn't find exactly what I'm looking for.
I have a 1975 3.0CSi, with a 3,003cc(?) engine from a CSL in it, instead of the 2985cc original. I have a 5 speed overdrive box, stainless steel exhaust, stainless steel handmade fuel tank, LSD, uprated anti-roll bars, Bilstein shocks, standard springs, and 16 inch staggered Alpinas.
My quandary - a friend has offered me a really low mileage 3.5 litre engine from a 1990 535i - E34. Car is complete - it was crashed up the rear and is a write off. Price is peanuts, and he says I can take anything off the car that I would need. That's my problem - I dont know everything I would need. I'm not that mechanically minded, and would be getting someone to do the work for me.
Is this a good idea? I'm thinking about the advantage of more modern unit and fuel injection / reliability etc rather than doing it for any performance mod...
What does this swap entail? Anyone have any story of identical conversion they would be willing to share? What bits should I keep from the donor car? What bits should I keep from current engine bay?
I would really appreciate any advice.
