Hello Community,
I've been reading and soaking in as much as I can regarding the differences in B34 and B35, and understand what the 1.3 Motronics offer, but I'm not certain what the M30B35 1.1 setups lacked in the build which could turn it to a 1.3 system. I found someone offering the following:
"... what I have for sale is a 1990 M30B35 without the 1.3 motronic which I can provide for an addition $250
which would include the I.3 intake w/injectors Ecu/Dme, 1.3 wiring harness."
Does this sound right to you? Is it just electronic, or did BMW offer different pistons or cams when they offered 1.3 Motronics? Or something else I'm unaware of now and don't want to be surprised by?
Appreciate the feedback. I am a new member -- bought a '73 3.0csi with D-Jet; prior threads covered this. I have since found some rust issues I'd like to address ASAP, and dumping any kind of money into my stock engine is feeling idiotic. I met a member with an E9 M30B35 (although I think it's B34, come to think of it) and he was very happy with the performance upgrade - 5 speed as well. So I'm pretty convinced this is what I want.

Don knows for sure, but 1.1 has a pickup on the flywheel with a unique bell housing and has a cold start valve on the plenum. 1.3 uses a harmonic balancer sensor and no cold start valve. From the Wiki:

"The Motronic 1.1 and 1.3 systems are largely similar, the main improvement being the increased diagnostic capabilities of Motronic 1.3. The 1.3 ECM can store many more detailed fault codes than 1.1, and has a permanent 12-volt feed from the vehicle's battery which allows it to log intermittent faults in memory across several trips. Motronic 1.1 can only advise of a few currently-occurring faults."

What does seller want for the motor and does it need a rebuild? The rest for $250 sounds reasonable if motor isn't expensive.

Thanks for the reply -- there's a lot (!!) of threads on this and I think I've read the answers to my questions probably a couple of times but just haven't retained them...
"which would include the I.3 intake w/injectors Ecu/Dme, 1.3 wiring harness" = $250 additional does sound good, I just hope I get all of what I need.
The block is "175 across all six cylinders" he says. He sounds like he's been doing this a while. This M30B35 he'll deliver for @750
I know guys have gotten into trouble trying to swap a B35 onto their Earlier M30 blocks and kind of comprehend that pistons, etc., are different. So I want an M30B35 that stayed intact from the donor it came from, not pieced together. But the harness, ECU and ?
An exact list for a swap. I'll tear it down and go through it / rebuild it before installing in my '73, understanding exactly what else I'll need is what I'm after.

Bill- cancel your craigslist ad until you know what you are doing.
Wrong tranny, wrong intake.

I do resemble...

She did check, that's why she's with me!

I didn't check a thing. It ran, I paid, I left. It's got some BBS wheels - gold... I've been driving it for a couple days now. I still love these boats; so comfortable. It's a cruiser; as slow as I remember, but still as appealing as when I was 14 and they were all over southern Marin.

Sfdon taught me the finger trick, and told me how to start checking from the top down... Thanks Sfdon; appreciated the instructional and patient advice. If something pops up in the Windsor Pick-n-Pull and you want to save the time driving -- call me, email me. It's just down the street from my house.
