The antenna on my coupe was black originally. Now it is pretty old and scratched.

What options do I have for replacement?

Currently it is located on the front left, just ahead of the A pillar.

Antennae...

No original black ants that I have ever seen.

Almost any aftermarket ant will fit. Check 'em out at Checker, NAPA, WalMart, etc.

Telescopic ants can get bent, then they're history One piece is what I have and like.

Electric ants have to be kept clean and well oiled. BMW ants regularly freeze/rust up, like old Benz ants (they use the same brand). Electric ants also get bent and that's that. A new mast for an electric ant will be around 40 clams.

Antenna stuff continued...

I have an electric antenna (drivers side/up front) that activates up/down automatically when I access the am/fm thru my head unit. I thought this was fine, as most of the time I listen to 1) sattelite radio, 2) my ipod, 3) CD's.

But as it turns out I've accessed AM/FM radio just enough to loosen the the stability of the antenna. I've tightened it up, but the problem persists...SO

is it coupe heresy to consider an antenna delete, and opt for a hideway antenna?

no antenna!

I was about to start a thread asking what to do if I have no antenna (the car had no radio originally and still does not), so this thread is fortuitous. Do stereo systems have built in antenna's? I don't plan to add one. Maybe I should go with satellite?
Thanks

Hey Psychrunner...

you wrote: "Do stereo systems have built in antenna's? I don't plan to add one. Maybe I should go with satellite?"

Most current stereo head units allow an antenna input s for am/fm as well as satellite. The antenna's can be mounted on the exterior or hidden. My satelite antenna is in the engine bay on top of my shock tower...near perfect reception.

Wondering now about the appropriatness of doing the same with my am/fm antenna. Involves possibible body work to cover the hole, but more importantly does it devalue the coupe?

No Antenna

If a stock 3.0 CS was delivered without a radio and antenna then removing the antenna will not detract from originality.
If there is a way to bave an antenna hidden, I would happily have the hole filled.

Devalue to delete the antenna hole?

To be safe you can save the antenna hole, and when it comes time to sell you include the hole with the car...

I have the antenna hole in a bag in the basement. I may sell it!

I trust you do, but I bet it is all rusty at the edges.
Nothing like holes from garaged California cars.
