Air accumulator (for conversion to injection setup)

I have two accumulator pieces. One is from a 72 CSI and the other from a 76 e3 or maybe an early 6 series. Does anyone know what the 17-18mm diameter hole is, that is centered under the cold start valve of the 76 unit? I have not found any info on the parts diagrams or manuals.

I will be adding the old style manifold to a late 86-89 engine with the Motronic 1.3 ECU. Given that, I think I will need to plug or fill the hole.

I have a euro L-Jet e3 with the same hole in cast, but it is not open. May be it is an US spec for EGR-emission control ? :?:

I believe you are correct. I found a diagram that shows a pipe recirculating some exhaust gas through a filter and back to into the manifold through this hole.

Yep, EGR. Just plug it.

With Motronic 1.3, you won't need a cold start valve either.

FWIW, I have a spare manifold log for a CSI (D-jet) and it has the second hole, but it is capped off with something akin to a silver/aluminum colored freeze plug.
