Houston we have a problem!

I purchased a complete air conditioning kit from Ben at CSi - surprisingly it actually came from an e3 so had the wrong front grill (I found a replacement e9 version) and the wrong side grills (I found some e9 replacements) but has critical upgraded elements so should work perfectly in long Sydney summers!

While the condition of the unit overall was at best satisfactory, our air conditioning specialist electrician has managed to repair everything to a very good standard. However, on testing, it seems the fan speed switch which allows for two speeds has suffered from some heat damage, so while it works, it does so with a hint of intermittent performance which worries us as replacement once the whole fascia is installed is time-consuming. It seems that it is impossible to get replacements, so I called Ben and he suggested that they actually glow red when operating at night (I hope not a fire hazard) and suggested there is a new electronic equivalent unit on Amazon and he would send me the link. However, despite a few follow-ups he has been too busy, so I wonder if anyone has sourced this part of perhaps has an original unit in excellent condition?

Many thanks in advance as always!

David

Pull it out and try cleaning it and the rheostat with electronic cleaner and very fine sand paper folded and run over the coil as well as the contact arm. And I've not heard good things about that guy so perhaps his opinion should be taken with caution.

It’s actually off, on continuously variable, full blast.
Not just 2 speed. Keep in mind there is a hidden resister inside the evaporator box.
Original new old stock switches are available but very expensive.
I have them ordered always - currently a box is coming from France as of this morning at fedex at airport in Paris.
Have you considered a 3 speed switch?
A lot cheaper but not original.

What is the switch on the left in your photo, the INDAK part? Is that a 3-position switch? If so, I assume the three positions are "off", "medium speed"(current through a resistor) and "high speed" (no resistor in the circuit). But if that's the case, why would there be two resistor coils at the back of the switch?

Here is the helpful update from Ben everyone

Amazon with the title as "Elegiant DC 10-50V 60A High Power Motor Speed Controller PWM HHO RC Driver Controller Module 12V 24V 48V3000W... It's also listed as "C 10-50V 60A High Speed Controlle PWM Controller Module 3000W extension cord". For only $21. We've had customers use this electronic switch instead of the mechanical switch on their A/C blowers. We've never used it ourselves.

here is the INDAK part number from the ebay auction that is currently out of stock
SW2000/8003

in looking at INDAK's website for 3 position rotary switches, i don't find that part number

Has 3 Spade Terminals And A 1/4" 'D' Shaft For The Knob.Threaded Shaft Length Approx. 3/8"
(Body is Approx. 1" X 1" Square, Threaded Shaft Diameter Is 7/16" )

will need to verify the shaft width and length and threaded shaft size

The wiring diagram is for what year (74, maybe?)

Each one comes with a ohmmeter, a pencil with eraser and pad of paper.
