As a furniture designer, and big Calder fan, I'd love a good copy of these two pics, or especially the top one...any way?

yes, true ... but with the many thousands of people who could touch it, drip something on it, rub against it ... why take a chance with a historic car and a very large piece of priceless abstract art covering the amazing race car. i would also guess that they want to filter ultra-violet light to reduce oxidation / breakdown of the paint.

sad yes ... but this car must be preserved.
 
Calder

I grew up and went to school with his grandson Sandy (Alexander) Calder in NJ. I remember seeing his Mobiles hanging in the Guggenheim Museum in NYC.
